Detection of Asymptomatic Adenocarcinoma at Endoscopy Prior to Gastric Banding Justifies Routine Endoscopy

Detection of Asymptomatic Adenocarcinoma at Endoscopy Prior to Gastric Banding Justifies Routine Endoscopy
Conclusions  The detection of two early, asymptomatic oesophageal adenocarcinomas in a high risk patient group justifies our policy of routine upper GI endoscopy prior to gastric banding surgery. Acute joint pathology and synovial inflammation is associated with increased intra-articular fracture severity in the mouse knee
Conclusions: This study demonstrates that articular fracture is associated with a loss of chondrocyte viability and increased levels of systemic biomarkers, and that increased intra-articular fracture severity is associated with increased acute joint pathology in a variety of joint tissues, including synovial inflammation, cortical comminution, and bone morphology. Further characterization of the early events following articular fracture could aid in the treatment of post-traumatic arthritis. (Source: Osteoarthritis and Cartilage)

Understanding the Influence of Phosphatidylcholine on the Molecular Weight of Hyaluronic Acid Synthesized by Streptococcus zooepidemicus.
Authors: Sun J, Wang M, Chen Y, Shang F, Ye H, Tan T The effect of phosphatidylcholine on the molecular weight properties of hyaluronic acid (HA) was studied in batch culture of Streptococcus zooepidemicus by adding phosphatidylcholine at the early stage of exponential phase. With the addition of 80 mg/L of phosphatidylcholine, maximum HA yield (2.47 g/L) and weight-average molecular weight (902.60 KDa) were achieved, increased by 17.4% and 67.1%, respectively, as compared to the control. Metabolic flux analysis was employed to study the mechanism of phosphatidylcholine on the molecular weight of HA. The normalized flux distribution maps based on fermentation data at phosphatidylcholine addition indicated that phosphatidylcholine resulted in higher flux flowing to the HA pathway and ...
